HEP Training (heptraining.cern.ch) is a catalogue providing a one-stop shop for trainers and trainees to upload and discover training materials and events.
For trainees, the platform offers a convenient gateway via which to identify relevant training events and resources made by the community;
for trainers, the portal offers an environment for sharing materials and event information;
for training providers, HEP Training provides opportunities to promote training events and news, and to contribute to a growing catalogue of materials.
HEP Training is not hosting the resources, it is a metadata registry/hub to centralize scattered training resources. Our goal is to shed light on valuable trainings made within the HEP community.
Originated from TeSS, developed through mTeSS-X and EVERSE¶
The catalogue originates from the open-source platform TeSS (Training e-Support Service) which is developed and maintained by ELIXIR, Europe’s distributed infrastructure for life-science data. Over the last decade, the ELIXIR TeSS instance has matured in a comprehensive training catalogue featuring more than 3’500 training materials and 10’000 events.
HEP Training has been part of two European projects, namely mTeSS-X and EVERSE.
mTeSS-X (Multi-space Training e-Support System with eXchange) aims to overcome the fragmentation of training resources across Research Infrastructures and the European Science Clusters. This has been done by enhancing the existing TeSS application by developping the multi-space and the exchange features – both now fully integrated in HEP Training.
EVERSE (European Virtual Institute for Research Software Excellence) is a consortium of 19 european institutions, its ambition is to contribute towards a cultural change where research software is recognized as a first-class citizen of the scientific process and the people that contribute to it are credited for their efforts. This involved the integration with third-party applications such as APICURON and BIP! Scholar. This allows trainers to have their contributions to HEP Training rewarded on their ORCID profile for example (see Trainers).
Whilst the ELIXIR TeSS may provide other features (workflows, e-learning), those have been disabled for now in order to focus on the essential training resources: materials and events. Please contact the HEP Training team if your find relevant to add any other feature, we would be happy to help and discuss about your needs: contact
